New Zealand and Pacific correspondent between 1989 to 2004. Worked as a solo correspondent in New Zealand , maintaining a network of stringers and photographers as well as covering all the major political and sporting events in New Zealand and the South Pacific. These have included general elections, changes of government, disasters and major sports events in New Zealand , as well as major events in the South Pacific, including military mutinies, coups and civil disasters.

Between 1987 and 1989 ran The Dominion’s Auckland office, covering the city scene, as well as managing the eight person bureau.

From 1983 to 1985 was news editor on the country’s then top selling Sunday, acting as both deputy to the editor and responsible for assigning news team and editing copy.

Prime Minster’s Department, Samoa , press secretary

As a member of Volunteer Service Aboard, was posted to Samoa to work for then Prime Minister Tupoula Efi from 1976 to 1980.  Primarily edit the English language newspaper Savali. The posting quickly expanded to multiple functions in the department including acting a press secretary, photograph and policy adviser. The single biggest drama at the time was the crash of a plane with 10 deaths.

Author Mau, a history of the New Zealand rule over Samoa . It has been published in two editions and remains the key work for Samoan history in New Zealand high schools.
